Thanks, everyone! Moonbeam lives a bit further south than I do, but it's going to hit us directly, from what I keep hearing. I'll be checking in as well. I hope everyone else stays safe!!

Here is my "non-Facebook" update (since I am not allowed to use "social media" while at work): I am working in our Emergency Operations Center (EOC). We have had minor wind issues, very little in fact. We have some flooding in areas that was expected. It's been breezy, but not too bad yet. Tropical force level winds are expected in the next couple hours. All schools, municipal offices and most businesses will be closed today. So, that should limit anyone out on the road. There is suppose to be a travel ban in the three cities for today too. We are in a holding pattern now until everyone wakes up at the same time that the winds are really suppose to kick in. It should be interesting.
I will try to keep everyone updated as best as I can.
Thanks for everyone's thoughts and concerns.

It's aiming right for us now. I've been sent home for a bit. Gonna sleep a little and get cleaned up and go back in tonight. Its supposed to get bad during the day today and worsen this evening.

Good luck moonbeam, et al. We had 30 mph winds 200 miles from the eye. It reminds me of Irene.

Yes, I'm afraid that end of the country isn't prepared for what is coming - as they don't encounter them often - if at all.
Make sure you have a can opener that is NOT electric, fill your bathtub with water for flushing the toilet, don't use a grill or a coleman stove INSIDE, and don't open your freezer. Once the electricity comes back on, open it, cook everything that is thawed and refreeze it for a later date.
Flashlights NOT candles - a clock that is NOT electric - and make sure you have fresh water in gallon bottles and plenty of canned goods, a cooler full of ice and drinks that won't go bad.
Good luck, we'll be thinking of you - and if you hear a "train" get away from the windows.

My sister in Williamsburg and my niece in Boro Park are okay though electrics were gone. Lots of people that I and otheres in my community know or are related to in Seagate though who are not very happy, houses gone totally, or taken such a pounding that there is not enough left to keep it safe...... No lives were lost because most evacuated in time and the last few saw the water coming and ran for it. They've all got insurance but it can never make up for sentimental things.........Heart aching for them all.......

I'm finally able to check back in after this whole mess of a hurricane. We lost power here in central Jersey on the shore. My neighbourhood was without heat/electricity for 7 days, but we survived! We had a generator and managed to keep the fridge cold, so we saved our food as well. My house lost two trees, as they were uprooted and then fell over. One crushed the neighbour's fence, and it's a HUGE tree. The other tree fell into an opposite neighbour's yard causing no damage. That neighbour's tree fell into our yard, just barely scraping the front porch, but causing no damage. All in all, we were lucky! The house and vehicles were ok. We only lost one small metal storage shed, which was pushed over when a third neighbour's tree uprooted and fell away from the shed, pushing it up and over with its massive roots.
We just got our phones back yesterday and our cable/internet connection back as of about 5pm, EST today. I've yet to see any pictures, as I've mostly been catching up on FB and letting people know I'm alive.
I'm glad to see you're all here and well!!
