"It ain't easy telling people how close you are to them when they aren't here."
Hawkeye gets upset with BJ when BJ wears his socks. BJ and Winchester complain when Hawkeye wants to read a book when they want to sleep. Hawkeye finally decides to move out of the Swamp and he rents an old shack to stay in. After Hawkeye leaves, BJ and Winchester try to pretend that they are getting along. But BJ can't stand Winchester's music and Winchester is getting annoyed with BJ's stories from home. Hawkeye, on the other hand, is lonely and wants someone to come and visit him. For Mildred's birthday, Colonel Potter wants to paint a picture of the medical staff. Unfortunately, he can't get the three doctors to cooperate and stand together. He decides to paint the staff by twos. Meanwhile Father Mulcahy, Klinger and Margaret scheme separately to get Hawkeye, BJ, and Winchester friendly again. Father Mulcahy goes to Winchester and asks him to ask Hawkeye to come back. Klinger tells BJ that it is a plot of Winchester to get the Swamp to himself. Margaret tells Hawkeye that BJ's daughter has a medical condition that Winchester only jokes about. This eventually leads to a fight between all six as Colonel Potter finishes up his painting.
Trivia: What is Hawkeye's rent on his apartment?
Potterism: "Hot hushpuppies!"
The theme familiar for the end credits is also played at the beginning of this episode. This is John Fujioka's last of three appearances on M*A*S*H.
This was an OK episode - better than most of the season 10 episodes.
