"About all a man has that he can call his own are his values. When you sell those out, there's nothing left."
Hawkeye, BJ, and Winchester are assigned to the promotions board. The enlisted men start kissing up to the officers. Hawkeye has to refuse strawberry shortcake. Winchester has his life threatened by Corporal Elmo Hitalski, an illiterate man, who wants a promotion. After narrowing the selection down to three finalists, the doctors ask simple questions and only Klinger can answer his question correctly. In the end, only Klinger is promoted. The doctors make an infuriated Hitalski think he has been promoted and actually have him arrested. A patient, Private Danielson, is being taunted by his companions because of his morality. He tries to keep them quiet by volunteering for explosive ordinance disposal duty. Colonel Potter keeps him from going through with this unwise decision.
Trivia: What are the name of Rizzo's wife and "bouncing baby" boy?
A blooper is noted when Winchester refers to Sergeant Rizzo as a corporal when he is dismissing him. Even as this blooper is made, the viewer can see the stripes on Rizzo's uniform as being those of a staff sergeant. A more subtle error is made when BJ talks about Winchester wanting a court martial for Hitalski "because he had a 'z' in his name", but on the credits, Hitalski is spelled as it is here -- with an "s". Most likely Mike Farrell said his line wrong. Igor gets a last name in this episode, Straminsky. In "The Price of Tomato Juice" (S4) the actor had used his own last name, Maxwell, for his character. Finally, Colonel Potter is asked if he has any kids and the Colonel says "One daughter" effectively closing the door on him having a son as mentioned in Seasons 4 to 6.
John Matuszak was a pro football player for the Houston Oilers. He was Sloth in "The Goonies". This is the first of two appearances for Deborah Harmon who had a leading role as the mom on TV's "Just the Ten of Us".
An OK, but somewhat unrealistic episode. It doesn't cast Army enlisted men in the best of light.
