"Those are the kinds of ideas that keep the sun from setting on your empire."
The 4077th is celebrating Christmas night with a British unit. When the British major tells them about Boxing Day, Klinger suggests that they try it at the 4077th. After a quick meeting, Colonel Potter appoints Klinger temporary commander. The next morning Klinger has organized the rest of the duties. Hawkeye and Father Mulcahy will be orderlies, Margaret and BJ will be on K. P. and Winchester will be the cook under the direction of Sergeant Salvatori Pernelli. Nurse Kelly becomes the head nurse and of course Colonel Potter is given the company clerk job. Klinger tries to teach the colonel how to scrounge. Winchester feels burdened by his job when Sergeant Pernelli won't let him rest. Winchester tries to protest, but Colonel Potter sends him back to work. A blizzard buries Seoul just as a patient needs to be evacuated. The gasoline will also not be delivered to camp on time so the generator needs to be used as little as possible. The doctors decide to operate on the patient that should be evacuated. Since he has a fever, they have to operate with the heater off and the windows cut open. It starts to snow. In the end, everyone discusses his experiences and Winchester compliments the food.
Trivia: What does "Corporal" Potter wear?
Facts about Winchesters: "A Winchester only recognizes one 5:30 per day -- this [a.m.] is not it."
Kellye is referred to as "Head Nurse Nakahara" showing her character's last name. This is the only episode where a last name to one of her characters was spoken in script. Note that some M*A*S*H trivia games claim her last name is Yamato. This comes from the credits of "Hot Lips and Empty Arms" (S2). However, in that episode, as in all other episodes where her character is given a last name in the credits, she was never called that name in the script, so Yamato is equally as incorrect as any other "guess".
Michal Ensign played a recurring roles as Axelrod on "Guns of Paradise" and Judge Resnick on "Boston Legal". He was also the Hotel Manager in "Ghostbusters" (the original one).
This was one of the better season 10 episodes.
