"If I do say so, Father, you're a tough act to follow."
Sergeant Gary Sturgis, a wounded soldier is concerned about his best friend, Lieutenant Dan Lowry. Sturgess offers to donate blood to his friend since they have the same blood type. Hawkeye cross matches them and finds out that Sergeant Sturgis has leukemia. Hawkeye wants to rush the sergeant off to Tokyo for treatment, but Sturgis just wants to stay and give support to his friend. Meanwhile, Cardinal Reardon is touring the various Army units and stops at the 4077th. Father Mulcahy is very concerned about making a good impression. Sergeant Rizzo is trying to keep a craps game going despite Father Mulcahy's protests. They finally break it up at the VIP tent where the Cardinal is staying. In the end, Father Mulcahy has to give his sermon in his bath robe because he was up all night talking to Sergeant Sturgess. He manages to impress the cardinal anyway.
Trivia: What's the name of the "pulchritudinous display" behind the bar in the officers' club?
Patrick Swayze was at the beginning of his career. He would go on to star in movies like "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost". Interestingly, though, Ray Middleton was the recognizable guest star in this episode when it first aired. He was at the end of his career having starred in movies like "I Dream of Jeannie" and "1776". Tom Kindle became an often seen guest star on "After MASH". Robert Balderson also guest starred in an episode of "After MASH".
This was a good episode.
