"I shall get even."
BJ asks Hawkeye questions from a quiz in Reader's Digest. One question prompts an argument between Hawkeye and BJ and causes them to wager whether Hawkeye can finish the day without telling another joke. Colonel Baldwin, the man who sentenced Major Winchester to the 4077th, is touring the MASH units and comes to the hospital. Much to everyone's surprise, Winchester is quite the gentleman around him, even when Colonel Baldwin pretends not to recognize him. After Major Winchester lets the colonel win back all of his cribbage debts, Colonel Baldwin tells the major that he would like a companion for the evening. While Winchester is busy employing a prostitute, Margaret stops by the VIP tent with some reports and finds herself being accosted. Colonel Baldwin then seeks Major Winchester's help to get out of his predicament, but Winchester will not tell a lie about a friend. Then the prostitute comes back to collect her charges. At 12:01 a.m. Hawkeye tells all the jokes that he couldn't tell all day.
Trivia: What are Klinger's "three W's?"
Facts about Winchesters: "Winchesters are one of the finest families in all Bean town. We have impeccable credit in all the financial capitals of the world: London, Geneva, Tokyo."
Major Winchester says Colonel Baldwin owes him $623, which is different from the $672.17 bill in "Fade In, Fade Out" (S6). Perhaps the Colonel had already paid him some $50. Robert Symonds reprises his role as Colonel Baldwin that he played in "Fade In, Fade Out" (S6). Also in "Fade In, Fade Out", Colonel Baldwin has an eagle on his left shoulder showing that he is a full Colonel, but in this episode he has a silver cluster on his right lapel showing he is a Lieutenant Colonel. Fans of the original "Star Trek" know that Nathan Jung was Genghis Khan in "The Savage Curtain".
An OK episode.
