"He who lives in a tent knows that all things blow over."
The staff is talking about television in O. R. One of the soldiers on the tables is Sergeant Michael Yee, a Chinese-American who has many battle scars all over his body. In post-op he proudly tells some of his stories to the nurses. Then Hawkeye comes in and tells Yee he is going home. The next thing they know, Sergeant Yee has tried to kill himself. Major Freedman is called in to help out. Under hypnosis, Sidney finds out that he is stressing over having to fight against people of his own heritage and all his heroic acts were attempts at suicide. Major Freedman has him twitch his wrist whenever he wants to kill himself. Meanwhile, Klinger has decorated his room. Colonel Potter, being fair, has all the officers vote on whether the decorations should stay or not. Angry that the vote was unanimous against him, Klinger practices forging Colonel Potter's signature. Then he puts it on some discharge papers. BJ tries to stop him, but the papers are sent anyway. Then Colonel Potter compliments Klinger on his work and the lamp he chose to keep from the decorations. Klinger feels guilty now and rushes to headquarters, posing as Radar, to stop the colonel there from processing the discharge. Hawkeye and BJ play darts by looking in a mirror and break Winchester's lamp.
Trivia: What was going to be Klinger's identity when he returned to Toledo?
Bonus: From whom did Klinger scam the jeep? What was that person going to use it for?
Potterism: "Great balls of fire!"
This is Clyde Kusatu's third appearance on M*A*S*H and the second one for David Cramer. Philip Bruns was Jerry Seinfeld's original Dad on "Seinfeld". Major Winchester mentions being "confronted with a smiling, singing seltzer pill named Speedy" when watching television. These commercials didn't start until 1953. It is assumed that Winchester had been stationed in Korea long before 1953 (He was in Tokyo before coming to the 4077th).
A pretty good episode.
