At breakfast the doctors notice Colonel Potter's swollen glands and diagnose him as having the mumps. He is quarantined to his tent. Winchester, tries to make them believe his genes have rendered him immune to the mumps, but he is up at 0600 worried about being Charles Emerson Winchester the Last. He finally is quarantined as well with the illness. Colonel Potter and Major Winchester become roommates for a while. Klinger, on the other hand, is worried about getting the mumps and does everything he can to stay away from them. During the ordeal, Winchester is annoying Colonel Potter by beating him at gin, making fun of Zane Gray, and playing Henrico Caruso albums. Just as they work out their differences, Klinger walks in with the mumps. Meanwhile, the replacement surgeon, Captain Steven J. Newsome is fitting right in. In O. R. he tells his horror stories of working in the Pusan Perimeter. But, when he has to decide whether or not to amputate a soldier's leg, he has to leave O. R. When he doesn't come back Hawkeye orders a search for him. They finally find him crying in the tent with Colonel Potter and Winchester. Colonel Potter paints a horse.
