"Is that all you do -- bird imitations?"
Klinger is writing a letter to his uncle about life at the 4077th. In O. R. they are talking about how there are no war songs for the Korean War. Father Mulcahy takes it upon himself to change that. Colonel Potter has Klinger posing on Sophie in order to paint a self-portrait. Major Winchester takes Klinger bird hunting and the bird that is shot lands on a land mine. Margaret comes to Klinger complaining that she needs a new foot locker, but I-corps has turned down the request because it wasn't damaged in combat. Margaret takes Winchester's gun and shoots the foot locker. A slow soldier named Eddie wanders into camp looking for his friend, Hank (Corporal Fleming). Hank was wounded bad enough to be sent home. When Eddie finds out, he is sad, but another friend, Dave, promises to help him. Hawkeye gets a letter from his dad telling him the "world's funniest joke." Hawkeye tries to tell it to BJ, but doesn't get any reaction. Later in the mess tent, Colonel Potter and Klinger try to tell Hawkeye the same joke. This starts a competition between Hawkeye and BJ to see who is the funniest. No one will choose between them. Hawkeye, deciding that it is all in the moustache, decides to grow one.
Trivia: What two things did Colonel Potter and Winchester say that BJ had over Hawkeye?
There's no one singing war songs now
Like people used to do.
No "Over There," no "Praise the Lord,"
No "Glory Hallelu'."
Perhaps at last we've asked ourselves
What we should have asked before:
With the pain and death this madness brings,
What were the others singing for?
Potterism: "Tough Patooties."
Colonel Potter's paint case says "Capt. Sherman Potter" on it. Painting, for him, must truly be a long-term talent. Richard Lineback would have a prominent role in the movie "Speed". Kelly Ward is more known as a diction coach and as a voice director for many animated TV shows and movies.
Also a very good episode.
