Breaker points, that is.... Ok, for those of you not in the know, back before motor vehicles had all this computer control stuff on them, ignition timing was done by something called breaker points, the rode on a cam under the distributor cap, and opened can closed, kind of like an alligator's mouth. (Remember BJ fixing the motorcycle, and Klayton Kibby telling him to steel some from a jeep?) I said all that to say this... I have a boat, a 1970, to be exact... Breaker point ignition. Points wear and need adjusted often. They need replaced every year. ($16.00 with condenser) Some say it's a real bad idea to convert a boat with the electronic conversion kits out there... (the moisture is hard on them, as rumor has it) Waht I want to know is, is there anyone on the forum here who has made the swap (in a marine application) and what were your findings? Also, I want a system that won't break the bank. Thanks

Anybody? Beuler? Beuler? Also, while I'm at it, not only are points getting old, but, so is having to ave gas for it at $6 a gal!!! If I put pump gas in it, that valve train chatters like crazy!!! Even putting a can of lead substitute don't help. To that end, I'm thinking of replacing the cylinder heads. Or, would I have to do the pistons to? At which point, I'm better off pulling the whole freak'n engine.
