Oh it was sad to hear of Charles Durning dying - he was such a great character actor. I loved him as Pappy O'Daniel in "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?" - and he was great as the sinister and yet comical detective in "The Sting" - he was never on Mash, but he should have been - he would have been a perfect fit.
I was astonished to find that he was in the initial attack on D-Day - the only one in his company to survive, that he was injured and later a captive. He wouldn't talk about it, because he said he didn't want people to see him cry.
He will be buried in Arlington Cemetary - and he will be missed.
