"It looks like I discovered the cure for the common hot."
It is very hot and the camp is getting tired of seeing the movie Sahara. General Rothaker, one of the wounded, smells alcohol on a corpsman's breath when he comes in and orders Colonel Potter to shut down the officers' club and Rosie's bar. This only adds to the frustrations of the staff. The colonel also impounds the "hooch-mobile". I-corps sends the 4077th a placebo instead of codeine. Hawkeye gives Klinger the placebo pills when the corporal claims to be dying from the heat. Klinger takes them and actually stops sweating and walks around in full uniform. Then Hawkeye and BJ read about a movie, "The Moon is Blue", which was banned in Boston. The doctors decide they want to see it, but Major Frankenheimer won't let them have it. He announces that his supervisor had already booked the movie for the rest of the war. Klinger manages to get the movie back from the movie agent. But Major Frankenheimer still won't let the 4077th have the movie because there are generals waiting to watch it. When Hawkeye and BJ leave Major Frankenheimer, they talk to his aid, Corporal Bannister. Bannister's friend had just set him up with a date and now the corporal is real nervous. Hawkeye gives the corporal some of the placebo pills and Bannister is cool and collected on his date. As thanks Bannister switches the labels on the movies so the 4077th will get "The Moon is Blue". But unknown to the doctors, Colonel Potter got General Rothaker to order the movie for the hospital staff. The 4077th watches "State Fair".
Trivia: What movie agent had booked "The Moon is Blue" for the rest of the war?
Potterisms: "Monkey muffins", "Damn Sam", and plain old "Rats".
"The Moon Is Blue" is an actual movie starring William Holden and David Niven. The movie "State Fair" starred Harry Morgan. Harry Morgan also appeared in "High Noon" which is another of the many movies mentioned in this episode. After Winchester's beans are knocked off the table, the next shot shows more beans than should be there and grouped together more.
Hawkeye says "One of these can give you more confidence than all the deodorants ever produced." I'm not sure if the word confidence was related to deodorant before Secret started airing commercials about it in 1956.
Hamilton Camp was last seen as Corporal Boots Miller in "Major Topper" (S6). Larry Ward was last seen playing General Kratzer in "Where There's a Will, There's a War" (S10). Sandy Helberg shows up as Dr. Schlotkin in the movie "SpaceBalls".
