"Nobody forgets what happens here. The secret is learning to live with it."
Hawkeye and BJ are preparing themselves for the camp Halloween party. Klinger comes in and calls Major Winchester to remove a billiard ball from a Marine's mouth. Winchester puts the Marine through a regular check-up and mocks him. Two other marines have been racing a jeep backwards and runs over a chicken coop. Still another marine tried to punch a fan and chopped up his hand. Wounded come as the doctors are headed to the party. One of the men brought in already has a toe tag on. This man is set aside. In O. R. Colonel Potter talks about a simultaneous dream of Mildred and her sister about their brother's death. Margaret tells a story about taking a photo with a ghost in it. Hawkeye tells how his uncle was saved by the Luck of the Irish, a ship that was supposed to have sunk twenty years earlier. Colonel Potter has a patient with a bone in him that was from another soldier. There is another patient who is suffering from undernutrition. Hawkeye finds out that he is refusing to eat because his friends were killed while he was away getting seconds at dinner. Undertakers finally come for the soldier with the toe tag. Just as they are leaving, Father Mulcahy comes back from the orphanage. He stops the truck to give the soldier last rites and sees a tear roll down the man's cheek. Father Mulcahy saves the man's life. BJ makes Winchester see a ghost.
Trivia: What is the nickname of the Marine division that spends Halloween with the 4077th?
This is the first produced episode for Season 11. The battle of Heartbreak Ridge is one of the more famous Korean War battles. It lasted a month near the end of 1951. There is a Clint Eastwood movie of the same name based on this battle.
George Wendt is best known as Norm on TV's "Cheers". Andrew Dice Clay, R. J. Miller, Arlee Reed and Terry Brannon were all making their acting debuts here. Richard Lineback is back for his second M*A*S*H episode. He was Eddie in "Dear Uncle Abdul" (S8).
An OK episode.
