"It was a squeaker, but we pulled it out."
When the 4077th loses to the Marines at baseball, the MASH staff decides to challenge their rivals to a bowling match. Colonel Potter, angry that Margaret was responsible for losing the baseball game, refuses to let her be on the bowling team. The colonel gets Klinger and BJ to help, but the fourth person switches from Father Mulcahy to Hawkeye and finally to Margaret, who scores the winning strike at the end. Margaret, at Colonel Potter's orders, gets the Marines' star player, Sergeant Marty Urbancic, drunk, but the soldier can bowl just as well drunk. Then BJ and Winchester take the sergeant out of the game by giving him a methylene blue pill and warning him against bending over. Meanwhile, Hawkeye gets a letter from his dad telling him that he is in the hospital. A very worried Hawkeye tries to contact his dad, but has problems getting through. Major Winchester helps out during this dilemma. Finally, Hawkeye learns that his dad is okay. Everyone has a happy ending.
Trivia: What is Sergeant Urbancic's nickname?
Bonus: What was the score of the baseball game?
The theme familiar for the end credits is played at the beginning of this episode. It should also be noted that in "The Winchester Tapes" (S6), Winchester always refers to his father as "Dad". William Lucking is known lately as Piney Winston in TV's "Sons of Anarchy". He has had many other guest spots on TV, including as Colonel Lynch on "The A-Team". This is the third and final appearance for Dick O'Niell. He was the admiral that knew the word in "38-Across" (S5) and the accident prone general in "BJ Papa San" (S7).
A forgettable episode. The bowling and alley don't even appear to be realistic.
