"Never say die, and certainly, never say we."
The doctors are making rounds in post-op when Colonel Potter walks in and announces that real eggs are being delivered to the 4077th. Everyone tries to give the cook orders for how his egg should be cooked. Sergeant Pernelli, in frustration, announces that all the eggs will be scrambled (except, of course, the colonel's). Winchester and Margaret try to cook their own but get chased out of the kitchen. Meanwhile, Hawkeye and BJ meet Private Nick Gillis, an AWOL soldier, in the mess tent. When Hawkeye and BJ finally get Gillis to tell them his problem, it is revealed that his wife had a child to another man. Hawkeye and BJ suggest Gillis talk to Father Mulcahy. The next morning, Hawkeye and BJ go to services with Private Gillis and, during the meeting, some M. P.s and Lieutenant Spears come to take Gillis back. Private Gillis declares the mess tent a place of sanctuary and Father Mulcahy grants it. Lieutenant Spears protests, so Colonel Potter calls the Judge Advocate General and then the command chaplain. Both deny Gillis his sanctuary, but Father Mulcahy continues to stand behind the private. It is during this incident that the eggs are ready to be eaten. Hawkeye and BJ organize a picnic brunch. But when Private Gillis pulls his rifle on Father Mulcahy and starts a commotion, the table of eggs is overturned and the eggs are dumped on the ground. Gillis goes to Sidney Freedman and the 4077th eats powdered eggs.
Trivia: How does BJ like his eggs? Margaret? Winchester?
Cyril O'Reilly played Tim in the "Porky's" movies. David Graf was Tackleberry in all of the "Police Academy" movies. This episode is Leland Sun's and Val Bisoglio's final credited appearances.
The eggs story was OK. The Private Gillis story turned a little preachy.
