"I don't care how poor a man is. If he's got family, he's rich."
Wounded come in. One of them, Corporal Levin, has a reaction to the blood they are giving him. His dog tags do not have the proper blood type on them. When Father Mulcahy comes around to talk to all the patients, the corporal, whose dog tags say he is Jewish, starts confessing to the chaplain. It turns out that the corporal's real name is Gerald Mullen and he switch dog tags to get sent home earlier. Mullen changes his mind when Father Mulcahy brings him Corporal Levin's mail. Another patient, Jim Mathes, got a Dear John letter from his girlfriend who wants him to send back his picture of her. Hawkeye helps out by collecting all of the pictures of girls that he can find to put in a response letter. Another patient, Corporal Alvin Rice, a National Guardsman and securities broker, won’t stay in bed. He is constantly up and bothering other patients trying to sell them mutual funds. Winchester finally tells Corporal Rice that his "latrickium subversis" is straining his vocal cords and that he shouldn't speak for several weeks.
Trivia: What is the name of the company for which Corporal Rice sells his insurance?
Bonus: Where did Igor meet his girlfriend?
This episode was produced during the 9th season but held to the 10th season to air. This is the first directing try by David Ogden Stiers. Colonel Potter's daughter finally gets a name, Evy, and a husband, Bob. He calls his grandson, who was previously named Corey and later named Stuart, Skip. Perhaps this is a nickname, since this is the only time it is used. Klinger carries a new model flashlight that would not be available in the 1950's period.
Dirk Blocker still appears as Hitchcock on TV's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine". At the time he was known for being Jerry on "Black Sheep Squadron". Among the many future roles of Joe Pantoliano are Ralph Cifaretto on "The Sopranos". He also had roles on the big screen as Cosmo Renfro in "The Fugitive" and "U.S. Marshals" and Captain Howard in "Bad Boys" and its sequels.
This is a fairly good episode. Actually excellent for the later seasons.
