"There is not one more free than someone with nothing to lose."
All of the medical staff is pulling pranks on each other. But, when Colonel Potter finds out that Colonel Daniel Webster Tucker, "lord high executioner of the Surgeon General's office", is coming to inspect the 4077th, he orders no more shenanigans. The doctors, however, hide Margaret's tent to revenge her putting oatmeal in Hawkeye's boot and, while they are pillow fighting, Colonel Tucker drives into camp. Both Colonel Tucker and Colonel Potter yell at them. The next day Colonel Tucker is still railing on them. After criticizing their work and being criticized in return, the colonel puts them all on report for insubordination and threatens a court martial. Finally, in desperation, the medical staff tries to get even with a prank on Colonel Tucker. Meanwhile, Rizzo tells Klinger that the Army does the opposite of what you want them to do. Klinger takes the advice and plays soldier for a day. After impressing Colonel Tucker, he switches to Cleopatra and the colonel insists that he get a section 8 immediately. Finally, Colonel Tucker announces to everyone, "April Fools."
Trivia: What is Rizzo's first name?
Potterisms: "Holy Hemostat!", "What in the name of Marco blessed Polo is going on here?", "Where in the name of Carrie's Corset is your tent?"
Pat Hingle's most famous credits are as Commissioner Gordon in the Michael Keaton/Val Kilmer/George Clooney "Batman" movies. He was also in "Brewster's Millions". Before M*A*S*H he had been around TV for a while particularly as Dr. Chapman on TV's "Gunsmoke" and in several Clint Eastwood westerns.
I like this episode a lot. It is funny and has a great punch line at the end.
