"To love and friendship."
Klinger wakes Colonel Potter up early in the morning for a phone call. The next morning the colonel announces he is leaving for Tokyo to visit a sick friend and leaves Hawkeye in charge. While the colonel is gone, the medical staff have to entertain some orphans who come in with bruises and scratches and need tetanus shots. The problem is that all the kids have reactions to the serum. When Colonel Potter returns, he solves the problem by explaining that the only meat they eat is horse meat. Then he secludes himself from the rest of the camp. After he gets a mysterious package from some lawyers, the colonel delivers to the staff invitations to a meeting in his tent. The staff concludes that the colonel must be terminally ill. At the meeting, though, they find out that Colonel Potter is the last survivor of a group of World War I friends with whom he had made a tontine. The package contained a bottle of wine they had saved for the last survivor of the group.
Trivia: What are the last names of Colonel Potter's four friends?
Bonus: What name does Klinger give his "assistant"?
You are invited to my tent tomorrow night at 1900 hours.
Cordially, Sherman Potter.
P. S. That's an order.
Potterism: "Buffalo Bagels" (repeated from "Hanky Panky" (S5)
The kids are unusually brave to wait patiently for shots that they have to get every 2 hours for 20 hours. Not one of them cries when poked. Usually Hawkeye gets all the rants, but in this episode, Colonel Potter rants about the beauty of horses. This is the first of two episodes for Sally Imamura.
A boring dud of an episode. Even the cute kids can't save it.
