"There's one war with a happy ending."
Winchester is brought into camp with an incredible hangover from his R and R. When Winchester tells Hawkeye and BJ that he can't remember what happened, they start going through his bags looking for presents and find a roll of film. After developing the roll, they learn that Winchester got married on his R and R. Then Klinger announces that Mrs. Chuck Winchester III is coming to visit the 4077th. Winchester worries that he is really married, but then he learns that the bartender performed the ceremony just to shut him up. The doctors perform the "unmarriage" ceremony. Meanwhile Korean Hemorrhagic Fever is spreading through post-op. In a staff meeting it is announced that a saline solution is not to be administered even though salt is being depleted from the person's body. The penalty for not following the cure procedure, they are told, is court martial. One patient, Private Shaw, has reached stage three of the disease and has gone unconscious. The doctors have a meeting and decide to give him small amounts of salt, but not as much as they would normally give him. This idea works and Private Shaw wakes up hungry.
Trivia: What is the name of the lady Winchester "married"?
Bonus: Where were they married and who married them?
Korean Hemorrhagic Fever (aka Hantavirus hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome) also spread through camp in "Soldier of the Month" (S4), but this episode ignores this fact. They do mention that it makes a "semi-annual visit" and kills 20 percent of the people who contract it. Winchester notes this is the first case he has ever seen possibly inferring that he has been in Korea less than 6 months. You can read more about it at www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00051521.htm.
James Keane was Willis Bell on TV's "The Paper Chase". Gary Burghoff is listed as a guest star though he doesn't appear in this episode.
A mostly forgettable episode.
