"When are we going to find a cure for the common war?"
At Rosie's, Klinger is bragging to some Marines about his baseball playing days. A Korean girl, Oksun Li, comes in and starts prostituting. Klinger steps in and stops her. When she tells him that she needs money, Klinger offers to give some to her. At that moment, Oksun's mother walks in and runs Klinger off with a broom. Wounded come and with them is Corporal Eddie Hastings. He makes Hawkeye promise that if he didn't make it through the operation that everything in his money bag would go to his parents. The corporal ends up dying on the table. After O. R. Klinger shows the officers a large sum of money which, they conclude, was illegally obtained. Their suspicions are confirmed by his "buddies" in post-op. So, since Hawkeye promised to give the money to Hastings' parents, he now sweats over writing the letter accompanying it. Later, Hastings' parents return the money to Hawkeye saying they knew about their son's illegal activities. Meanwhile, after another attempt at Klinger's life by Oksun Li's mother, Colonel Potter and Margaret go to visit the family and find out that the war has broken their family apart. The staff uses some of the returned money to send Oksun and her mother to be with the rest of her family.
Trivia: How much money was in Hastings' pouch?
Bonus: How does Oksun Li identify Margaret?
Gary Burghoff is credited but not seen. This is the first mention of the series of Colonel Potter having a daughter. Prior to this time we only had mention of a son - who we never hear about again. Later on, in "Promotion Commotion" (S10), his daughter will become his only child.
This is Shizuko Hoshi's final appearance of the series. Denice Kumagai had a recurring role as Quon Le on "Night Court".
An OK episode.
