"After tonight, every kid in America will wish he were me."
Hawkeye, Winchester, Colonel Potter and two visitors are playing bridge in the Swamp. Wounded soldiers interrupt the game. During triage Winchester says a wounded North Korean can't be saved, but Hawkeye puts that patient first on his list. This causes a commotion with another patient, Private Basgall. Suddenly Colonel Flagg is sitting in Colonel Potter's office looking for proof that Hawkeye is a communist spy. Colonel Flagg decides to employ Major Winchester to spy on Hawkeye and threatens him when the major turns him down. Private Basgall is so angry at what Hawkeye did, that he comes to the Swamp to try to kill the doctor. While Flagg is interrogating the North Korean prisoner in post-op, Winchester "finds" a map of the compound with the Swamp circled and a clock that says ten o'clock on it. Flagg investigates and finds Hawkeye and Colonel Potter and the two visitors gathering again. When Colonel Flagg finds out that it is all a practical joke and that he has raided a bridge meeting, he disappears and is never seen again (except in syndication). Father Mulcahy introduces BJ to his punching bag.
Trivia: What are the occupations of the two visitors?
Bonus: What is the name of the suburb of Boston where Major Winchester lives?
Potterisms: "Pony pucks!"
This is the first we hear about Major Winchester's family. Up until now we only knew about his Father and his heritage. Hawkeye mentions when Colonel Flagg had him fix up a patient so the patient could be executed while describing the colonel to Major Winchester. This incident is in "Officer of the Day" (S3). In "Rainbow Bridge" (S2), Hawkeye has a similar argument with Frank about treating prisoners. The episode "The Best of Enemies" (S9) has another story about Winchester and Colonel Potter playing Bridge together. This is Neil Thompson's second appearance on M*A*S*H. It is Edward winter's final appearance.
Once again Edward Winter turns in a stellar performance and makes this the best episode of season 7.
