Thanks for that info heavenation. And the diet thing doesn't surprise me - lots of "our" animals are difficult - probably cause they are also a bit weird compared to the rest of the world!! My husband and I do wildlife rescues and have had endless eastern grey joeys which will die of stress if you look sideways at them. We currently have 6 emu chicks which have to be fed turkey mash not chicken mash which has urea in it!

As cool as kangaroos and emus are, I definitely don't envy you having to try to raise them! When I worked for the veterinary hospital, I did a lot of rescues and fostering, myself, so I know how hard that can be! I raised 6 wild rabbits (5 of which survived- the sixth was crushed between a coworker's hip and the counter, unfortunately) and a whole slew of kittens. I'm proud to say that most of them all survived! I had twin baby boy kittens that came to me at 1 day old and unfortunately they didn't make it. There's a reason mom rejected them, and who knows what that reason was? I give you a lot of respect for doing the wildlife rescue thing, trangie! Keep up the good work! What do you do with the animals once you've raised them? Do the joeys get so attached to people that you can't set them free later? Or is that not an issue?

Thanks heavenation. They get released - but this takes time as they are in pouches forever and still bottle fed after they get out of pouches. We release into the backyard and then into a small paddock near the house which has a hole in the fence which they eventually go in and out of and then off they go. They do get very attached to humans and are really sweet - they like to hold your hand with their little hands!

Oh wow, so it sounds like releasing takes some time too. I'm glad they aren't animals you have to care for forever! It's so cute that they like to hold hands! AW! I didn't realize they could do that, but now it's a life goal to hold hands with a baby kangaroo.

About 18 months from tiny just furred joeys until release. And they really are not a lot of work as they like to sleep a lot and so are in the pouch most of the time. Once they start getting out of the pouch you can reduce bottles to 2 per day and eventually none. So then they just hang around grazing until they think it's time to hop off. They have the most beautiful eyes and disgustingly long lashes - pretty hard to resist!

2 Chiweenies, Elvis and Jake. My SO has a Ciauhua, Mickey, and a Daushound, Princess. I have 2 cats Princess (soon to be put to rest) and Molly Hatchet, and the SO has 2 also Olivia and a kitten TBNL.
Micky and Princess made Chiweenie puppies which we are trying to sell, to cover the SO's brohter's headstone. Nancy Wilson, Jimmi Hendrix, and Slash.

So what is a chiweenie, a ciauhua and a daushound? They sound very exotic!

Yes, Chiweenies are what they cal a desighner breed. They are very people oriented - (they love to love you) If you work with them, they are almost humanly inteligent. If someone comes to the door, you know it! (yap yap yap) Which I guess is actual;y the ultimate burgler alarm... Tehy also love to sleep under the covers with you. They avrage about 8-12 pounds, but some can go as high as 16. Elvis has 2 totaly diffent speak comands, shake, high 5, dances, wipes his nose, says his prayers, roll over, pays dead, and a couple other this that I'm forgetting.

We've recently adopted a springer spaniel called Scally (short for scallywag, which means mischievious in our lingo!). He's only 3 and a bit of a handful. He's ruling our lives at the moment but helping me lose weight with all the walks so can't be a bad thing.

Sadly I have to report that Trumps needed to be put down at Christmas - she was 16 but had renal failure - buried her in the paddock next to the house. But the good news is that the emus have now been released into the wild and are happily poking about the farm getting in the way of anyone trying to muster cattle or sheep!

Some tense moments in puppy land.... Elvis got "bumped" by a couple weeks ago. Lucliy the worst of his injuries was a dislocaed hip. Another update. We did manage to rehome the litter of puppies. Also, just before Christmas, the wife's follks got her a pommie (Jet) for Christmas. This one kinda pissed me off a bit... You see, she asked me to get teh dog, and I said, "Absolutly NOT!!! You're mad at the one we have most of the time, I'm the one who has to feed them, clean up after them, walk them, buy for their needs, no, I'm not have'n it!" She goes behind my back to mommy and daddy, they got her the dog. I kinda blame the new dog for Elvis's little scrape, as when I had them out, Jet wrapped his leash arround me, and I couldn't be in a position to mangae Elvis.

We've now got a second mutt, causing more havoc in the house but she's a great playmate for Scally - Sasha, a black labrador/staffordshire bull terrier cross. Still a pup at a year old but she's so gentle and daft as a brush

We currently appear to be owned by either a rat or a family of mice - judging by the amount of poison that has been eaten. ;D

We are now very thoroughly owned by a cockatiel. Got him about three months ago. He loves coming out of the cage, sitting on heads, coming round the house with me on my shoulder, being misted with water, and lots of attention! We called him the very boring name of cocky because one of my daughters said we were getting a cockytiel......
