Judge Legg refused to allow a temporary stay to stay in effect and as of August 7 Marylanders will join 43 other states that "Shall" issue carry permits for regular citizens to carry a concealed handgun.
Marylands permit does not differenciate between conceald and openly carrying a firearm although open carry will, wrongly IMHO, garner some unwanted penalties.
I do not want to bring up the debate again although I will discuss with anyone anytime the subject, I just wanted to let you guys know of someting that is VERY important to me.
All the best

There is another "timeout" as our AG has filed for a stay with the 4CA and he says he needs a stay due to the MD State Police not being prepared to issue permits due to thier inefficency.
I hate this state. Unforunatly I am to old to move and start my business over again and to young to retire.
I will keep those interested posted on the appeal.
I find it interesting that those in charge that dont want us to carry concealed guns either have permits themselves or are being gaured by gun toting gaurds themselves. The one exception I know of is a Senator that says as long as his constituants cant have one he wont even though he could get one in 2 days.

Oh, that's disappointing. I hope this comes down in favor of concealed carrying, if only because it would make my dad very happy, but I do also agree that it's constitutional.

Wow lauren, such a commen sense statement from a young Marylander. Most have been brainwashed by MD politics to believe guns are bad and not people.

As a side note Lauren, I was going to stop in where you work and let you know about this new site but did not want to be seen as a stalker... Glad you found it. If your dad uses the computer he can check out www.mdshooters.com for all the info he needs for CCW in MD. K

Really? I don't know that I would've thought you were a stalker, but I would definitely have been surprised. Thanks for thinking of me, in any case! I'm glad I found this site, too. I'd missed it.

No Nugs. It is people that are bad , not guns, and if people are allowed to have them - concealed or otherwise - they cannot be relied upon not to use them... simples. No Nugs at all.

While gun crime in down "Down Under" other crime is up despite the trend going the other way in places where guns are allowed. It is a common fantasy that gun bans make society safer. In 2002 -- five years after enacting its gun ban -- the Australian Bureau of Criminology acknowledged there is no correlation between gun control and the use of firearms in violent crime. In fact, the percent of murders committed with a firearm was the highest it had ever been in 2006 (16.3 percent), says the D.C. Examiner. Even Australia's Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research acknowledges that the gun ban had no significant impact on the amount of gun-involved crime: •In 2006, assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent. •Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent. •Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent. Moreover, Australia and the United States -- where no gun-ban exists -- both experienced similar decreases in murder rates: •Between 1995 and 2007, Australia saw a 31.9 percent decrease; without a gun ban, America's rate dropped 31.7 percent. •During the same time period, all other violent crime indices increased in Australia: assault rose 49.2 percent and robbery 6.2 percent. •Sexual assault -- Australia's equivalent term for rape -- increased 29.9 percent. •Overall, Australia's violent crime rate rose 42.2 percent. •At the same time, U.S. violent crime decreased 31.8 percent: rape dropped 19.2 percent; robbery decreased 33.2 percent; aggravated assault dropped 32.2 percent. •Australian women are now raped over three times as often as American women. While this doesn't prove that more guns would impact crime rates, it does prove that gun control is a flawed policy. Furthermore, this highlights the most important point: gun banners promote failed policy regardless of the consequences to the people who must live with them, says the Examiner. Source: Howard Nemerov, "Australia experiencing more violent crime despite gun ban," D.C. Examiner, April 8, 2009. Are you anti gun or anti crime? K

I am not getting into this with you again K! And I don't believe any of those ridiculous stats! First all, I did not ask you to join in the ceonversation, you did and I responded. Sencondly, of course you do not believe stats as you are anti gun and like most anti gun people you debate with emotion, not facts. K
